What are some of the most underrated or overlooked ski essentials?
Ask most people who have ever embarked on a ski trip, and they will be able to tell you that such items as ski poles, bindings, and boots are of huge importance.
However, there are also other examples of high-quality and reliable ski gear in the UK – as well as a couple of extras – that could greatly enhance your experience when you next turn up to your favourite ski resort.
Below, we’ve picked them out.
Suncream
Not everyone who goes skiing always fully appreciates that the snow’s magnification of ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun can make it very easy to get sunburnt.
The March to April period at ski resorts can be a particularly risky time in this regard, as the warmer spring days take hold and skiers aren’t necessarily quick enough to adapt their routine by investing in – and applying – suncream.
A little something like this SPF 50 Combi product in our online store could do nicely for your own next trip, particularly as it also incorporates vitamin E and aloe vera for moisturising.
Tissues or a ‘snog rag’
It is hardly a “glamorous” suggestion, but it’s also worth reminding ourselves that certain aspects of the ski experience can be very far from glamorous.
When you’re somewhere up on a cold mountain, it’s inevitable that you will get a snotty nose at some point. So, it’s well worth keeping some tissues or a dedicated rag handy to blow your nose with, so that there isn’t any question of having to wipe your nose on that expensive jacket.
Snacks that don’t require you to take your gloves off
We’re sure you know the kind of foods we’re referring to: those granola bars or protein bars that you can simply unwrap and snack on for a quick energy boost while on the chairlift ride.
We’re talking about the kinds of unfussy “bites to eat” that won’t weigh you down because you won’t need to have a huge amount with you. Such snacks, when well-chosen, can provide the fuel that will keep you enjoying yourself on the slopes for longer.
Pocket screwdriver
Even if you invest in some of the most durable and reliable ski gear in the UK to support your skiing passion, and you are proactive with the preventative maintenance of your equipment, you can’t rule out that something will come loose at a less-than-convenient time.
You’ll barely feel a mini screwdriver in your pocket while you take on your favourite challenging terrain. However, you will be thankful for having it on you if your skis need to be tightened when you’re on top of a mountain.
A source of hydration
You might not imagine that much of a reminder would be needed of the importance of keeping hydrated while skiing. Still, the cold, dry air at the typical ski resort can cause fluid to be quickly lost through breathing, which makes it even more important to carry water with you.
That might involve bringing a small, reusable water bottle, or a can or two of our own Ski Exchange-branded still water could come in handy. The latter will certainly be handy for one of our affiliated charities, which will receive 10% from the water you purchase through us.
Are you on the lookout for the competitively priced, well-made, and reliable ski gear in the UK that will enable you to get more out of your ski breaks during 2025? If so, there’s really no need for you to look further than Ski Exchange, whether you visit us in person at Dry Drayton, Cambridgeshire, or shop with us online.
