Season just wrapped up? Here's what to sort before your kit goes in the loft for the summer. It's tempting to just throw everything in a bag the minute you're back and forget about it until next winter, but a bit of attention now saves a lot of hassle in October.
What should I do with my skis or snowboard straight after the season?
Don't pack it away just yet, there are a few things worth doing first.
- Check the base and edges for end-of-season damage before you pack anything away
- Get any repairs sorted now while we've got time, rather than leaving it to summer
- Wax the base as a protective layer even if you're not doing a full service yet
Should I check my boots before storing them?
Boots take a real hammering over a season, so it's worth a proper look before they go away.
- Yes, check buckles, liners and shells for damage picked up over the season
- Dry them out fully, damp boots stored for months is how liners break down
- Flag anything uncomfortable now while it's fresh in your mind, not in October
What about bindings?
Easy to overlook, but worth thirty seconds of thought while everything's still fresh.
- Have the DIN checked and reset if it's drifted over the season
- Note any release issues you noticed while skiing so we can look into them now
Is it worth doing a full service straight away?
Not necessarily, and here's why we'd actually hold off.
- Not necessarily, a full service is best done closer to summer when the workshop's quieter
- But sorting damage and drying kit out now stops small problems getting worse over months in storage
Bring your kit in for an end of season check, it takes the guesswork out of what state it'll be in come autumn!
